Landau Forte College Derby holds inspirational career talks by PwC and Rolls-Royce

This term at Landau Forte College, Year 11 and Sixth Form students have been visited by top multinational companies, including PwC and Rolls-Royce, to discuss career opportunities within their firms.

At one session, students were joined by a consultant at PwC, who gave an engaging presentation about different careers available within the company – which is a world-leading professional services firm and one of the top graduate recruiters in the UK. The students also heard from a graduate apprentice at the firm, who shared her recent experiences of navigating the world of work.

The presentation was followed by a question and answer session where the pupils quizzed the visitors on what skills and attributes are valued in the world of business, as well as exploring the different pathways which would allow them to begin their careers in the sector.

Last week, students also enjoyed a talk given by higher apprenticeship employees at Rolls-Royce, who work across various areas of the global engineering firm. They were able to tell the students about ways of joining the company through their various apprenticeship schemes and give advice on the application process.

Students have said that these careers talks have been extremely informative, giving them useful guidance for Higher Education courses and an insight into potential career and apprenticeship pathways.

One student in particular said:

“The session with Rolls-Royce massively helped me in choosing future goals. We were given some amazing information which really helped me learn about and understand the opportunities available there. I am hoping to start an apprenticeship there once I have finished my A Levels.”

Alison Brannick, Principal of Landau Forte College, said:

“Our students regularly go onto the best universities and employers in the country and effective, personalised next-steps guidance is extremely important in achieving this. It has therefore been brilliant to have top employers like PwC and Rolls-Royce visit the College this term and give our students an insight into what careers with them are like, and what they need to do to stand out.

“Whatever pathway they choose to take, whether that’s university, an apprenticeship or further training, we always aim to give our students the advice they need to make the right choice for them. Events such as these widen our students’ horizons and show them the breadth of opportunities available to them.

“I’ve had some excellent feedback from the students about just how much they have enjoyed these visits and they seem genuinely enthused. I hope that each of them was able to take away some useful advice from the talks as they continue planning for their futures.”
