My first ever session at Landau
was Geography with Mr Gazda.
He was very kind and helpful.
He made the change from
primary school to secondary
school look like it was the best
change that you could ever
have in your life. To start the
session we completed some ice
breaker activities to get to know
everyone. Afterwards, I was
collected by a member of my
tutor base and we headed off
to tutor time. It was here that I
met my PT and tutor group.
I have made a lot of new
friends. I met some of them
whilst waiting in the restaurant
before our first session that day.
Whilst we were in Geography
I made many other friends.
When I came here, I realised
that no other students from my
primary school were beginning
their studies here with me,
so naturally I felt a little bit
nervous, but I needn’t have
worried.
There are a range of extension
activities to take part in after
College: I really enjoy going to
them. I am part of the college
netball team and have already
been given the opportunity to
go to Spain for a week to play
a tournament.
I really think you have to believe
in yourself at Landau Forte
College. If you always think
ahead there are many different
ways you can extend your
learning and help others too. I
regularly complete extension
activities and even in my short
time at Landau Forte so far, I
can see the difference this has
made to my attitude and my
learning. I am really enjoying
my time studying at the College
and I’m looking forward to what
my future will hold.

On Monday 14th September,
Year 12 had their annual
‘Opportunities Fair’. Much like
Fresher’s Week at university,
the students experienced all the
extracurricular opportunities on
offer at Landau Forte! Students
were challenged to work in a
team as part of the Engineering
Education Scheme or within
Business inYoung Enterprise.
For those who enjoy working
with younger students there
was the option to become
a Peer Mentor or a Learning
Mentor supporting in sessions.
There was a huge amount of
interest from our young people
in becoming Learning Coaches,
where students and staff work
collaboratively to continue to
deliver outstanding teaching
and learning. In addition to all
the exciting opportunities on
offer from within Landau, the
National Citizen Service were
also present. This organisation
gives young people the
chance to contribute to their
wider community by working
collaboratively with others
from across the city to plan
and deliver a charitable project,
something that looks great on
future UCAS applications. All in
all, the Opportunities Fair was a
massive success with so many
young people signing up for at
least one activity outside of
their academic interests.

Year 12 Opportunities Fair
My name is Saffy and I am inYear 7.
The night before I started I was very excited. I had already packed my bag
during the day because I knew I needed to be very organised.
When I arrived at College, I had to wait in the Theatre. I felt so independent.
All I had wanted since I started primary school was to go to this amazing
place and now I was here.
