Autumn 2015
The play is set in the town of
Swindon, England. The plot
revolves around a fifteen-year
old boy called ‘Christopher’
discovering the dead-body
of his neighbour’s dog,
‘Wellington’. Throughout the
play, he investigates the murder
mystery whilst unfolding
the secrecy surrounding his
family. The audience can relate
to everything that happens
because it is all important and it
is all linked.
From the title, many of the
students had expected the play
to have the main focus on the
dog: our assumptions were
fulfilled for the first scene of the
play. However, they were then
changed as the story started
turning towards ‘Christopher’.
Watching this interesting play
captured the attention of many
which had left us wanting to
read the book. The technology
in the theatre was used
successfully throughout the
performance, making the story
more dramatic, enjoyable and
easier to understand.
Seeing and experiencing the
play before starting to read it in
our GCSE English sessions will
make it easier to interpret the
characters and grasp the themes
and concepts of the story. It will
also make it easier for students
to discuss and write about the
characters confidently.
Frankly, it’s just more interesting
having seen the play rather
than simply reading it. Overall,
all students had a fantastic
experience and are looking
forward to studying it in the
weeks to come.

The IntriguingVisit to the
Theatre in the Day-time
On Thursday the 24th of September, a group of Year 10 students had left College
at 12:30 to watch a touring production of ‘The Curious Incident of The Dog in the
Night-time’ at Sheffield LyceumTheatre. Many of the pupils were unaware of the
plot, therefore it was an exciting and unpredictable experience.
