Autumn 2015

Having already flown through
the Regional Finals and
appearing on BBC Radio Derby,
Billal’s speed and accuracy were
enviable.
The students from all over
England were tasked with
translating and spelling as many
words as they could in one
minute. The atmosphere buzzed
as the students took their seats
and got in a few last minute
practice rounds. Billal, who had
been practising with his German
Assistant, Mr Englert, in the car
was calm and composed as he
took to the stage to compete
in front of the entire German
qualifying contingency, their
teachers and the judges, one of
whom was a native speaker.
Billal’s skill was impressive and,
although he did not win the
overall prize, he is still a winner
and did the College proud. We
wish him the best of luck with
his languages in the future.

To Bee or not
to Bee…
On July 3rd 2015, Miss Hannigan took Billal Idrees
to Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge to
compete in the National Finals of the ‘Routes into
Languages Spelling Bee’.
Erstaunlich!
