The Duchess was greeted on arrival by prominent community figures including the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Mrs Elizabeth Fothergill CBE, and the Mayor of Derby, Councillor Linda Winter. She was then introduced to Senior College staff including Alison Brannick, the College’s Principal, and Dr Antony Edkins, the Chief Executive of Landau Forte Charitable Trust.
Before touring the College, HRH was presented with a posy by Daniel Guthrie in Year 8.
During her tour, the Duchess took in a dance performance in the College’s theatre and met the performers before moving on to speak with GCSE and A-level technology students.
Landau Forte College has its own Teaching School and the Duchess was introduced to trainee tutors including those training in maths, science, computing and English.
The Duchess sat in on an English lesson before meeting the Student Council. Representatives of the Council explained how the College contributes to the community and works with local and international charities.
Following the visit, College Principal Alison Brannick said:
“It was a privilege to show Her Royal Highness around our school. It’s fantastic for our students to know that a member of the Royal Family is taking such an interest in them, and I think the Duchess was impressed by their academic, sporting and community work.”
