We are delighted to announce that Landau Forte College Derby has been awarded Bronze status as a Stonewall School Champion. This award gives us greater recognition in tackling homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying. The Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards enable us to effectively benchmark our progress and give direction to our ongoing work in this area.
We were able to evidence the great work we do such as having a clear anti-bullying policy which specifically includes homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying. Staff and students are aware HBT language is wrong and tutors are trained to deal with these situations. We have displays around the College promoting an LGBT inclusive environment and students have had the opportunity to discuss gender stereotypes and gender identities. Our Information Centre has a wide selection of LGBT theme books, both fact and fiction appropriate for different ages.
The hard work from staff and students in making Landau Forte College Derby an LGBT inclusive school has been inspiring. We have come together to celebrate difference and diversity and we will continue to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all students. Our next stage will be to reach Silver status and would welcome the support of staff, students, parents and carers in this process.
