Landau Forte College is pleased to be one of only 10 schools outside of London working with First Give. First Give is a charity which works in partnership with secondary schools to support young people in giving their time, tenacity and talents to improve their local communities.
The programme was delivered to our entire Year 8 cohort. During the programme students were encouraged to work in teams to identify social issues in their area and engage with local charities that address them. The students then had the opportunity to compete for £500 of grant money for their chosen charity. Six teams with the most innovative fundraising ideas then had to deliver their fundraising plan to an assembled panel of judges in front of the whole year group.
The presentations were amazing and the panel of judges including Ms Brannick and Miss O’Mara from the College, Mr Rogers, College Governor and Ms Searle, Director of First Give were extremely impressed with the level of research, planning and passion that had gone into brining the presentations together.
It was a closely fought contest but the winners were group 5 who were supporting Derby Women’s Centre! Well done gentlemen – First Give will donate £500 to this very well deserving local charity.
Landau Forte College and it’s students are proud supporters of local charities, making a difference to the lives of local people.
