Just-Ice is a local company using the power of delicious ice cream to raise awareness of human trafficking and modern slavery. Sally and Gavin Murray are currently visiting the College to deliver powerful gatherings on the controversial topic of modern slavery. Trafficked victims into the UK can be forced into industries such as agriculture, construction, beauty and car washes but along with this are the people who are trafficked purely for sexual exploitation, 98% of whom are women and girls. Young girls are often deliberately targeted for their vulnerability, and it’s estimated that one in four victims of slavery in the UK are children. Our students listened intently whilst Gavin and Sally highlighted the businesses which can be ‘fronts’ for modern slavery and asked our young people to be vigilant in their local communities. The profits from Just-Ice go to fund the rescue and rehabilitation of those involved in modern slavery.
