Year 12 and 13 Product Design students visited Warwick University for a series of lectures by professional designers.
The students received 5 lectures from professional designers. The keynote lecture was delivered by Wayne Hemingway (founder of the Red or Dead fashion label). This was an outstanding lecture and inspired the whole audience!
The other lectures were delivered by Daniel Charny, a professor of design who spoke about social design and an initiative called Fixperts. Pascal Anson, the chair for the lectures, gave his lecture about the importance of resourcefulness in design. This lecture became interactive for the students when they were all asked to help build a structure out of balloons! Anna Ploszajksi gave a wonderful lecture about material science and smart materials. Who’d have thought that materials science could be interesting! The final lecture was given by Graham Potts from the consultancy forpeople, and he gave an amazing talk about the work of his company that the students were enthralled with. He spoke of the electric car they had helped to design for the Chinese version of Tesla called the Nio. His lecture focussed on the power of ideas and where they come from. The day was a massive success and all of the students were feeling inspired by the end of the day
