Students at Landau Forte College Derby are celebrating A Level success following the publication of this year’s results, having endured months of uncertainty throughout the lockdown during their final term at school.
With exams cancelled, Government has decided that students’ results would be based on a combination of teachers’ assessment of what grade a student would have achived had they sat the exams, and the rank order of students within school, together with a national standardisation process which takes account of the school’s performance over the last three years.
Students’ hard work has been rewarded as 9.5% of grades achieved an A*, compared to 3.6% last year. Overall, 30.5% of grades scored A*-A, up more than 6% points from 2019.
Staff and teachers at Landau Forte College Derby have worked extremely hard to make sure that the grading for every student is as fair as possible, and allows students to take their next step – whether that is taking up a place at university or starting an apprenticeship.
Students have secured places at some fantastic universities, including Cambridge, Nottingham, Imperial College London, Exeter, Warwick and Derby. In addition, several students have secured high quality degree apprenticeships with companies such as National Grid or Toyota.
This year the following students did particularly well:
- Adrian Biddle achieved 3 A*s and will go on to study Natural Sciences at Peter House College, Cambridge
- Aba Amponsa achieved 2 A*s and 1 A, and will go on to study Law at Emmanuel College Cambridge
- Zoe Marshall achieved 2 A*s and 1 A, and will go on to study Biological Sciences at Exeter University
- Niall Oswald achieved 2 A*s and 1 A, and will go on to study Maths at Imperial College London
- Soraya Kruse achieved 2 A*s and 1 A, and will go on to study Law at Murray Edwards College Cambridge

“It is a real shame that this very talented group of young people were unable to sit their final examinations but it is vitally important that we celebrate their significant achievements in these unprecedented and challenging times. They have coped remarkably well with the challenges thrown at them and we are all so proud of them.”
