Dear parent/ carer,
We hope you and your family have had a restful break and we wish all in the Landau Community a happy and successful new year!
As I am sure you are aware, due to increasing Covid 19 cases across the country the Department for Education has reviewed its guidance for schools. The full, updated guidance can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/actions-for-schools-during-the-coronavirus-outbreak
The main change to the guidance is the recommendation that face coverings are now worn in classrooms, as well as communal areas. As per the previous guidance, students and staff who are medically exempt are not expected to wear face coverings. We have shared this change with students this morning and explained the reasons for its implementation. We would appreciate your support in ensuring your son or daughter brings a reusable face covering to school each day. Face coverings will continue to be available from Reception but to cut down on waste we would request that all students wear a reusable face covering.
Changes to self-isolation
Since 22 December, the 10-day self-isolation period for people who record a positive PCR test result for Covid 19 has been reduced to 7 days in most circumstances, unless you cannot test for any reason. Individuals may now take lateral flow device (LFD) tests on day 6 and day 7 of their self-isolation period. Those who receive two negative test results are no longer required to complete 10 full days of self-isolation. The first test must be taken no earlier than day 6 of the self-isolation period and tests must be taken 24 hours apart. If both these test results are negative, and the young person does not have a high temperature, they may end their self-isolation after the second negative test result and return to school from day 7. Please report any positive cases of Covid 19 to the school by contacting our Attendance Manager, Miss Lucy Hawley, or emailing [email protected]
Asymptomatic testing
Thank you to those parents and carers who consented to their child being tested in school today. To reduce the spread of Covid 19, staff and students should continue to test twice weekly at home, with lateral flow device (LFD) test kits, 3-4 days apart. We hope you will support the school by ensuring your child completes the regular lateral flow testing, reporting any positive cases to the school and NHS via https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result
Staffing
There were occasions last term when staff absence due to Covid 19 presented significant challenges for us, unfortunately this may also be the case at some point this term. We will continue to work very hard to do everything we can to keep the school open for our students but we would ask for your patience and support in these challenging times. As always, we will continue to do our very best for our young people and we thank you for your ongoing support.
Kind regards,
Alison Brannick
