Good morning,
I am writing to inform you that we have taken the decision to move back the start date for the 2022/23 academic year. Students in Years 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13 who were due to return to school on Wednesday 24 August will now be returning to school on Tuesday 30 August. In addition, our Year 7 students, who would originally have been joining the school on Tuesday 30 August, will now be joining on Thursday 1 September. Year 12 students will now join us on Thursday 8 September. This change in the start dates for the academic year also means that we will need to push back the end date of the academic year from Friday 14 July 2023 to Wednesday 19 July 2023. The new term dates are attached to this email.
We have taken this decision due to the Department for Education and Ofsted changing the timings of A-level and GCSE Results Days this year, which are now a week later than they have previously been. The change means that GCSE Results Day is now scheduled for Thursday 25 August, rather than the usual date of Thursday 18 August, and so would have taken place during the originally proposed school term.
It is important to all of us at Landau Forte College Derby that we have staff available to support our former Year 11 students in securing Sixth Form, College, and Apprenticeship places, and to offer careers information and advice when collecting their GCSE results. This will not be possible if the new academic term has already started and staff are teaching their regular classes, and so we have taken this decision to slightly postpone the start of the new academic year.
We appreciate that by changing dates this may cause some inconvenience to our students and their families and we do sincerely apologise for this. Our hope is that by informing you now we can mitigate any inconvenience this causes.
If you have any questions or concerns about this change in term dates please do contact me via the PA to the Principal, Miss Walendziewski at [email protected]
End of term arrangements
School will close for the end of term break at the normal time of 3.10pm on Friday 11 February. The last day of term will be a non-uniform day, organised by our Landau Forte Members of Parliament, in support of Children’s Mental Health Week and the charity Place 2 Be https://www.place2be.org.uk Students can pay £1, via Parent Pay or cash, to wear non uniform.
The Landau Forte Parliament has created activities for tutor time this week, including students sending kindness postcards to each other, a wellbeing challenge, getting creative with kindness and a 10 minute meditation practice. All the activities are based around the key theme of ‘growing together and supporting each other’.
Thank you for your ongoing support, we really appreciate it. We wish you and your family a peaceful, safe and restful end of term break.
Kind regards,
Alison Brannick
