The last week of term was Culture Week, an idea created and brought to life by a group of Year 10 students. The week focused on celebrating the Landau community’s cultural identities and what makes us all unique. Many exciting events, such themed meals in the Restaurant and focused activities in tutor time, took place throughout the week but the pinnacle of the event was Friday! Students paid £1 to attend school in dress which best represents their cultural heritage and best represents them. Money raised from the non-uniform day was donated to BRAC, a charity which support social development, social enterprise and education in Africa and Asia. Our students and staff attended school on Friday in amazing outfits, representing countries from across Europe, Africa, Asia and North and South America. The school was a sea of beautiful colours and very special outfits! Staff and students were welcomed into school by African drumming and a Caribbean steel band played through breakfast and lunchtime. Students participated in Latin American and Chinese dance workshops and African drumming workshops – there was an absolutely wonderful atmosphere throughout the event and our students had a wonderful time. Needless to say, Culture Week will now be an annual event! Noor, Armeen and Mariyah, Year 10 students who organised the events, said ‘ We can’t believe how successful Culture Week was, students really enjoyed it, everyone was interested to find out about each other’s culture!’ ‘We have students from across the world at Landau and it was amazing to see everyone dressed in their finest, celebrating their heritage. We can’t wait for next year’s event!’
