Dear parents/ carers,
As we come to the end of what has been a fantastic academic year I wanted to thank you for your continued support. It has been wonderful to get back to a more ‘normal’ way of working and it has been a pleasure to welcome parents and families back into the school.
Ahead of the summer holidays, I wanted to share with you some arrangements for the start of next academic year.
- The last day of term will be Friday 15 July and school will close at 1.30pm.
- Start dates for the new academic year:
- Year 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13 will return on Tuesday 30 August
- Year 7 will start on Wednesday 31 August
- Year 12 will start on Thursday 8 September
Please find attached the full term dates for 2022/23 and 2023/24
- School uniform
School uniform for next academic year remains unchanged. Please find attached the student dress code. Please remember that the only acceptable school skirt is the pleated skirt that must be purchased directly from Uniform Direct. No other skirts are acceptable. Below is a link to the school skirt:
Please ensure your child does not return to school after the summer break with any form of facial piercing – facial piercings are not allowed and students attending with facial piercings in the new academic year will be placed in our Internal Exclusion Unit.
We appreciate that financially these are challenging times for many of our families. Please don’t hesitate to contact the PA to the Principal, Miss Walendziewski, to enquire about support with PE kit/uniform costs.
- Equipment
Please find the equipment list attached. Students in Years 7 -11 will need a suitable school bag in which to carry their equipment/ books.
- Culture Week
The last week of term will be Culture Week, an idea created by a group of our Year 10 students. The week will focus on celebrating the Landau community’s cultural identities and many exciting events will be taking place throughout the week, as well as themed meals in the Restaurant and focused activities in tutor time.
On Friday 15 July, students can pay £1 to attend school in dress which best represents their cultural heritage or an outfit which best represents them. Money can be paid via Parent Pay or in cash on the day. The money raised from the non-uniform day will go to BRAC, a charity which supports social development, social enterprises and education in Africa and Asia.
On Friday there will be lots of special activities taking place including African drumming, a Caribbean steel band performance, and dance and creative workshops. At lunchtime there will be a range of food stalls from which students can purchase food including south Indian dosas, Lebanese wraps, fish and chips, pizza and crepes and galettes. If your child wishes to purchase food from the food stalls please send them with cash to do this. The Restaurant will serve a full hot brunch menu during breakfast service and at lunchtime the Restaurant will sell sandwich ‘grab bags’ only. The free school meal allowance will be uploaded to students’ accounts from 8.15am on this day, ensuring students can purchase a hot meal at breakfast. We will also be issuing any students eligible for free school meals with a voucher to use at the lunchtime food stalls. The vouchers will be posted to families this week. Students will finish school at 1.30pm, between 1.30pm and 2.00pm there will be an opportunity for parents to come on site and visit the food stalls with their children.
Again, thank you for your continued support this academic year. It has been an incredibly challenging year for schools across the country, but we are always so grateful for the support of the Landau community, which makes such a difference to our work every single day. If you have any feedback or questions on any issues raised in this letter please do contact me via Miss Walendziewski, [email protected]
We wish all our students and their families a restful and peaceful summer break.
Kind regards,
Alison Brannick
