Students were invited to celebrate National Poetry Day this year by creating a poem to share their views about the environment and what the environment means to them. We received an outstanding 60 entries with some really creative and heartfelt poems.
The three winners were:
- Jacob in Year 7
- Morgan in Year 10
- Matilda in Year 11
Environment by Jacob
Beautiful blue oceans
Colourful diverse forests
Millions of bright fish
Breathtaking landscapes.
Oceans flooded by plastics
Forest fires consuming life
Fish can’t escape from plastic
Land being covered up in heaps of rubbish
That was one huge change
But it takes one person to say that’s not okay
They could change this make a better world for everyone
Will that be you?
What is the environment? By Morgan
What is the environment I hear you ask?
Well, that is a rather difficult talk.
All the way back,
Way before blu-tac,
Is where we start figuring out the task.
Roman times when the problems start
Farming released methane, not good for the heart.
She – the scarred world by Matilda
Our winners receive an ‘Outstanding Literacy’ certificate, a Golden Ticket and a large chocolate bar. Well done!
Look out for the next literacy competition in the Information Centre.
