On Wednesday 14th December 2022 Destination Rail arrived at the College to deliver careers based sessions on the rail industry. Year 9 students were introduced to the Destination Rail team through the delivery of a gathering. In this talk students learnt about different types of careers within the rail sector and different pathways into these careers. This included a talk about the range of apprenticeships on offer including those offered by the rail division at Siemens.
Students were placed into groups of approximately 30, and had a 1 hour 45 mins session at a designated time during the day. During this session students had a talk about the British rail industry and participated in an interactive and competitive quiz, with many Golden Tickets being won.
They then had the task of creating an app on a rail industry inspired theme; such as catering or entertainment. A range of apps were created and presented, these included apps that inform passengers about the logistics of the train engine in real time, through to an app that allowed the purchasing of foods and drinks that could be delivered to your train seat.
The students thoroughly enjoyed this informative and fun day. They learnt a huge amount about the rail industry through interactive and engaging activities delivered by a great team of experts from Destination Rail. We thank them, and congratulate our students on making this event a success.
