Dear parents and carers,
As you may be aware, the National Education Union has chosen to stage industrial action on selected days over the coming weeks, starting from 1 February 2023. This strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government and not because of any issues particular to our school.
We have been working with colleagues across Landau Forte Charitable Trust to ascertain what this means for our school and what level of education we will still be able to offer. Unfortunately, due to the number of staff who will be unavailable during the industrial action, we will not be able to run the school day as normal.
Therefore Landau Forte College will be closed to students in Years 7, 8 and 9 on Wednesday 1 February.
Year 10 students should attend their work experience placements on 1 February, unless they are attending a school or nursery which is closed due to the strike action. If their work experience placement is closed due to strike action then they should remain at home.
Year 11 students should attend school as normal (8.30am – 3.10pm)
Year 12 and Year 13 students can attend school for private study, ensuring they are signing in and out at Reception. Dr Delbridge, Assistant Principal and Head of Sixth Form, will email Year 12 and 13 students directly with further detail about the arrangements for 1 February.
Additionally, any students who are in the cast of Bugsy Malone should attend school as normal (8.30am – 3.10pm) on 1 February as there will be a full day dress rehearsal for Bugsy Malone.
PLEASE NOTE the evening performance of Bugsy Malone is going ahead as planned – we look forward to welcoming lots of our families to this very special event!
A small number of young people have been identified as exceptions to this closure owing to their particular circumstances. You will be contacted individually if your child has been identified as part of this group.
For students in Years 7, 8, 9, 12 and 13 affected by the closure, the following educational arrangements apply:
- Work will be posted on Satchel One Show My Homework for timetabled lessons
- If you child does not have access to a device at home please contact Miss Walendziewski, PA to the Principal, [email protected]
For students attending school, the Restaurant will be open as normal. Students in Years 7, 8, 9, 12 and 13 who are eligible for free school meals can collect a packed lunch from Reception between 10am and 1pm.
I am sorry for the disruption and concern that this decision to close to some year groups will cause. Please be assured that we have considered every alternative to closure and have tried to maximise the number of students we can safely accommodate in the school. We do, however, need to maintain staffing levels that enable effective supervision and education of students. Unfortunately, due to this industrial action we will not be able to maintain these at a high enough level for all students.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly via Miss Walendziewski, PA to the Principal, [email protected]
Kind regards,
Alison Brannick
