Dear parents and carers,
As you are aware, the National Education Union has chosen to stage industrial action on selected days throughout February and March, with the next date being Wednesday 1 March 2023. This strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government and not because of any issues particular to our school.
We have been working with colleagues across Landau Forte Charitable Trust to ascertain what this means for our school and what level of education we will still be able to offer. Unfortunately, due to the number of staff who will be unavailable during the industrial action, we will not be able to run the school day as normal.
Therefore Landau Forte College will be closed to students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 on Wednesday 1 March.
Year 11 students should attend school as normal (8.30am – 3.10pm).
Year 13 students should attend for their timetabled lessons. Year 13 students can also attend for private study lessons, ensuring they are signing in and out at Reception.
Year 12 students can attend school for private study, ensuring they are signing in and out at Reception.
A small number of young people have been identified as exceptions to this closure owing to their particular circumstances. You will be contacted individually if your child has been identified as part of this group. If your child was invited to attend school during the last day of strike action (1 February) we will be contacting you again on Monday 27 February to ask if your child will be attending on 1 March.
For students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 affected by the closure, the following educational arrangements apply:
- Work will be posted on Satchel One Show My Homework for timetabled lessons
For students attending school, the Restaurant will be open as normal. Students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 who are eligible for free school meals can collect a packed lunch from Reception between 10am and 1pm.
I am very sorry for the disruption and concern that this decision to close to some year groups will cause. Please be assured that we have considered every alternative to closure and have tried to maximise the number of students we can safely accommodate in the school. We do, however, need to maintain staffing levels that enable effective supervision and education of students. Unfortunately, due to this industrial action we will not be able to maintain these at a high enough level for all students.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly via Miss Walendziewski, PA to the Principal, [email protected]
