Dear parents and carers,
Thank you all for your ongoing support. We have had a very successful start to the new academic year and we have been so impressed with all our students and their commitment and dedication to their learning.
Sixth Form Open Evening
On Wednesday 11 October we are hosting our Sixth Form Open Evening. This event is an opportunity to visit our highly successful Sixth Form and talk to specialist staff about the A level courses we offer. We are incredibly proud of our Sixth Form as not only do our students achieve outstanding examination results, but we also provide a high level of pastoral care, guidance, and support for our students. Our non-qualification curriculum is also incredibly strong and provides a solid foundation for students to thrive after leaving school. Already this term students in our Sixth Form have visited the University of Leicester and the University of Oxford, competed in our very own Ready Steady Cook challenge, attended a careers event delivered by Landau Alumni, and attended an onsite event hosted by the University of Sheffield. Over the next two weeks students will participate in our Careers and Opportunity Fair to learn more about the options available to them in the future.
We have already written to our Year 11 students about the Sixth Form Open Evening and more information can be found here:
https://landau-forte.org.uk/sixthform/sixth-form-open-evening/ Please note that the school will close at 3pm on Wednesday 11 October to enable staff to set up for the Open Evening which starts at 4.30pm.
Last day of term
The last day of term is Friday 20 October. School will close at the normal time of 3.10pm. The last day of term will be a non-uniform day in support of the Landau Forte Enrichment Fund. Students and staff can pay £1 in cash or via Parent Pay to attend in non-uniform. We will also have our usual Tuck Shop selling a wide variety of treats and snacks. Students may want to bring with them a small amount of cash to enable them to purchase something from the Tuck Shop. The Landau Forte Enrichment Fund was set up to support our students and their families who are struggling with finding money tight, particularly due to the increasing cost of living crisis. We want all our students to be able to access high quality enrichment activities and exciting off site visits. We firmly believe that all our students should have the opportunity to experience visits that enhance their taught curriculum and enrichment activities that develop new skills and broaden their horizons, therefore we set up the Landau Forte Enrichment Fund to support our students in accessing such activities. More information about the Enrichment Fund and how to donate can be found below:
Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) Curriculum
In line with Department for Education guidance, we are currently consulting on the Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum. We believe this is a very important part of our curriculum as our young people are growing up in an increasingly complex and challenging world. It is now more important than ever before that we support our young people in developing the knowledge and skills to stay safe and live their lives in a positive way. We would like you to read our draft Relationship and Sex Education Policy (see below) and provide us with any feedback.
This link shares the draft policy, DfE guidance, and how to share your feedback with us: https://landau-forte.org.uk/2020/06/relationship-and-sex-education-policy-consultation-period/
I hope that you all have an enjoyable and relaxing break and I look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 6 November.
