Good afternoon,
We hope you and your family are well. We wanted to share with you a variety of important updates.
Measles risk in Derby
We continue to work with the Public Health team in Derby and we have been asked to share the following information with our community.
The UK Health Security Agency has warned that measles could spread across the country unless urgent action is taken to increase Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination uptake. Measles is an infection which can spread very easily between people and can cause serious illness. The MMR vaccine is a safe and effective vaccine which protects you from catching and spreading measles.
Measles is often thought of as a childhood illness but can affect anyone who has not had an MMR vaccine or previously had a measles infection There have been a number of cases in the West Midlands, and although the majority of cases have been in children under 10 years old, around one in five cases have been reported in adults. We would encourage you to read the information flyer attached and accessed via the link below, regarding the MMR vaccine and, if your child has not been vaccinated, please do contact your GP to get the MMR vaccine for any unvaccinated members of your family. Please note, that a gelatine free MMR vaccine should also be available via your GP.
Parents’ evening dates
We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of the Parents’ Evening dates for the remainder of this academic year. On these dates the school will close at 3pm as this slightly earlier end to the day helps us to set up for the onsite parents’ evenings as well as giving students additional time before joining their parents for their virtual appointments.
30 January 2024 | Year 13 Parents’ Evening - virtual, on line |
07 March 2024 | Year 8 Parents’ Evening - in person, on site |
27 March 2024 | Year 11 Parents’ Evening – virtual, on line |
11 April 2024 | Year 12 Parents’ Evening – virtual, on line |
16 April 2024 | Year 7 Parents’ Evening – virtual, on line |
09 May 2024 | Year 10 Parents’ Evening - in person, on site |
09 July 2024 | Year 9 Parents’ Evening - in person, on site |
End of the school day
We would also ask for your support with regard to students leaving the school site at the end of the day. Unless students are participating in enrichment activities, interventions, homework club, or working in the Information Centre, students need to leave site at the end of the school day. Unfortunately, we don’t have the capacity to supervise students who are waiting for parents/ carers at the end of the day. This is particularly important on Fridays when the site closes to students, apart from those in Whole School Catch Up, at 3.25pm.
Free period products at LFCD
We are committed to ending period poverty at LFCD. Free period products are always available to students in our Medical Office but to ensure we can best support our students we are now holding monthly giveaways at the end of the school day. The next event will be Monday 16 February at 3.10pm. Students can visit the Restaurant to fill at least one carrier bag full of free period products.
School of Rock
We are very excited for this week’s School of Rock performances. Tickets are still available for performances on Thursday and Friday evening of this week. Tickets are £6 and available from Parent Pay. If you can, please do come and support our students in only our second ever musical.
As ever, thank you for your ongoing support, we really do value the exceptional level of support we receive from our families.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me via Miss Walendziewski, the PA to the Principal, [email protected]
Kind regards,
Alison Brannick
