Students from our year 7 and 8 reading club had a great time attending the recent final of the Derbyshire Schools’ Book Award held at Derby University.
Students were treated to a tour of the campus and shown some of the highlights of the university including the Library, the aquarium, the medical rooms and the sports centre. We enjoyed an entertaining talk from children’s author, Ben Davis and students had the opportunity to buy and get one of his books personally signed. Alongside ten other schools from across Derbyshire we took part in the Derbyshire Schools’ Book Award Quiz and then listened to presentations from schools about the shortlisted books.
We were also treated to a video from the author of this years’ Award winning book, Always Clementine, by Carlie Sorosiak. Students really enjoyed this year’s selection of short listed books and have decided that they would like to fund-raise to buy more books for the school library for next years’ award.
