Landau Forte College Derby is celebrating after four of its Year 8 girls won the CyberFirst Girls’ Competition in the East Midlands, showcasing their talent for all things cyber security.
The four girls – Aisha Sanub, Cleophee Balkota, Moyo Okelana and Inioluwa Charles-Adeoye – came together to form a team called Digital Defenders and came top in the East Midlands.
The content for each category of the competition covered topics from the Computer Science syllabus.
But it also contained some advanced cyber topics that are not covered in traditional education but which sought to stretch the lateral thinking and additional cyber knowledge of the teams.
Our students certainly demonstrated their abilities and knowledge and have each won a brand-new laptop and some prize money for their school.
They have also been invited to attend a lunch and evening gala dinner at Jodrell Bank in Macclesfield in March.
The aim of the CyberFirst Girls’ Competition is to boost girls’ skills in computing and to inspire girls who are interested in technology to pursue a career in cyber security.
The competition is a team event, with each team consisting of up to four girls in Year 8.
Alison Brannick, Principal of Landau Forte College Derby, said: “Our Year 8 girls loved taking part in this competition and we were very impressed by their dedication and commitment.
“We are incredibly proud of our winning team – Digital Defenders – who will now have the privilege of visiting Jodrell Bank next year.”
