With the completion of their end of year exams last month, all Year 12 students have now also successfully completed a series of non-qualification activities which have complemented those they have participated in each week this academic year.
Firstly, all students completed a week long Work Placement. This annual event is a key component in the sixth form curriculum offer with students testing out their career ideas, meeting and collaborating with new people, developing their interests and skills and experiencing life as an employee.
This was then followed by four days back in College focussing on developing further skills and attitudes needed for progression at the end of next year. Events delivered by external experts included an individual 30 minute mock interview with a local employer, first aid training, an introduction to British Sign Language and a workshop focusing on oracy and how to conduct a debate. In addition, students started their applications to UCAS whilst also learning about student finance and degree apprenticeships.
These activities are intended to provide students with the experiences and knowledge to enable them to make informed decisions on their future, to successfully transition to their preferred destination next year and to be able to play a role in positively shaping the future on a global, national and local scale.
