End of term update from the Principal

Posted in Important Information on May 22, 2025

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we come to the end of Term 4, I wanted to congratulate our students on their continuing hard work. Year 11 and Year 13 students have now started their GCSE and A level examinations and we are all so proud of the resilience, commitment and determination our students have shown.

The College will close for the end of term break at 3.10pm on Friday 23 May. Friday is not a non-uniform day and students should attend in full school uniform. After the break, we will welcome all students back on site at 8.20am on Monday 2 June.

There are several important announcements that I want to set out for you, but before that I would like to thank you all once again for your ongoing support. We know how important our relationships with our students’ families are – these are crucial to making sure students have the right support and opportunities to help them succeed.

If you have any questions about the information below, please do contact us via the PA to the Principal, Miss Lauren Walendziewski, [email protected] or 01332 204040.

We are delighted to announce that LFCD has been shortlisted in the Secondary School of the Year category for the TES Schools Awards 2025.

In our entry we detailed how staff here work relentlessly to overcome every barrier or challenge with enthusiasm and we shared our recent “Outstanding” Ofsted report. We also highlighted our Progress 8 score of +0.43, compared to the national average of -0.03. Staff are particularly proud of how well our disadvantaged students perform in national exams.

In addition to a high level of academic success, we shared that LFCD has a strong programme of enrichment activities to help promote the building of knowledge and personal development, such as theatre trips, a Robotics club, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and even a trip to St Lucia in June.

We will now have to wait until the summer to find out if we have won the Secondary School of the Year award.

Important information regarding change in payment method for school meals from 2 June 2025

The College has moved to a new management information system, Bromcom, the database we use to hold students’ information. As you will be aware, we have rolled out a new parent app called My Child At School (MCAS). If you have not already done so, we now need you to activate your account on the Bromcom My Child at School (MCAS) system. This can be accessed via a smartphone app on Apple or Android/Google phones, or via the web portal MyChildAtSchool – Login. You can activate your account by using the forgotten login option to reset your password, and then logging in via one of the apps, or via the web portal. You will be able to view your child’s timetable and attendance, and text messages sent by the College/Academy will be delivered to the app with notifications, instead of being sent as SMS messages.

From the start of Term 5, Monday 2 June, meal payments can only be made via the MCAS app, and no longer via ParentPay. There is a guide attached to this email to help you get started with making meal payments on MCAS. You will be able to view your child’s meal balance, top-up their balance and view their purchase history in the MCAS app, in a similar way to ParentPay. Visit payments will also move to MCAS from next academic year; we will provide further information regarding this before the end of this academic year.

If you experience any difficulties in accessing MCAS, or you would like to be able to top up your balance using PayPoint instead of card payments via MCAS, please contact Mrs J Woodings – [email protected]

Food Allergies/ Asthma medication

The College has a number of students with food allergies which can range from mild to severe. We would like to remind all parents and carers to inform our Medical Officer, Mrs Laura Allcock, [email protected]  of any changes to their child’s food allergy and medication as soon as possible. Students should carry their epinephrine auto-injector (Epi Pen), where issued, on them at all times and also provide an in-date, spare epinephrine auto-injector (Epi Pen) to the Medical Officer. Students with asthma should carry an inhaler, where issued, on them at all times and provide a spare inhaler to the Medical Officer.

For students who suffer from any allergies, we ask that parents assist their child in the self-management of their condition through frequent conversations with them. Should a student be unsure of the ingredients of any item in our Restaurant, please encourage them to speak with a member of the catering team before purchasing.

Exciting events next term

Between now and the end of the academic year, we also have a number of exciting events to look forward to. This includes our Celebration of Success events, visits to Germany and St Lucia, Roller World trips, Culture Week, on site Sports Days for Years 7-10, the Musa Memorial Football and Netball tournament for Year 8 and both the Year 11 and Year 13 Leavers’ Balls. The relevant year groups will receive specific letters about each of these opportunities nearer the time and Term dates for the remainder of this academic year and next academic year are always available on our website.

In the meantime, may I wish you and your families a peaceful and restful break.

Kind regards,

Alison Brannick
