A welcome from your new Principal

Ms Brannick is incredibly proud of the College and everyone in it. She cannot wait to meet you and your family and support your journey from Year 7 to Year 11 and, perhaps, to Year 13 too. In this video she has a message for you all:

Meet your Head of Year team

Head of Year -

We would like to say a big welcome to you all and share the excitement that we have for your journey from year 6 into year 7, here with us at Landau. At first you may be slightly nervous about joining us in year 7 but with the support from all of the staff here at Landau, we will help you with every step of the way.

As your Head of Year team we look forward to working with every student that will be joining us here at Landau. Alongside us you will also have a personal tutor who you will see every morning and they will share any information for the college week. Your personal tutors are there to guide and support you through your transition to year 7 so any questions you may have please ask.

When arriving at Landau it will all be very different and new to you but do not worry, we will guide you around the college to make sure you know where you need to be. Our amazing students will also be around to help and will be fantastic role models, inspiring you to achieve success here at Landau.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your time in year 6 and have a brilliant summer before your year 7 journey starts here at Landau.

Deputy Head of Year -

I would like to wish a warm welcome to all of our new Year 7 students as they embark on this exciting journey at Landau.

I hope throughout this transition to secondary school, you feel you are given opportunities to express yourselves, make new friends and truly take advantage of all of the things life at Landau has to offer.

The transition to secondary school is an exciting time, with so many new challenges and opportunities and with that often comes apprehension and worries. But please don’t worry! My role as your Deputy Head of Year, alongside your Head of Year Miss Ricketts and your Personal Tutors, is to support you on this journey, develop your academic and personal skills and offer you the chance to flourish.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

The Student Support Team

You are joining a school in which absolutely everyone cares about you and your wellbeing. However, sometimes it is nice to have someone special you can reach out to if you need it. Each of you will have a Personal Tutor who you will see at the end of every day. You can speak with them about anything at all and they will always support you.

Student FAQs

What time should I get to school?

All students need to be onsite by 8.20am. This enables you to be prepared and ready for learning at 8.30am

Where do I go when I arrive on my first day?

You will be greeted by the Year 7 team on your first day and they will direct you where to go.

Will I be in the same class as some of my friends?

You may not know any other students in your tutor group as we have students from lots and lots of different schools starting with us. We know you may be anxious about making friends, but don’t worry as your personal tutor will help you get to know each other and make good friendships.

What happens if I get lost and arrive late for my lessons?

We realise that it will take you a while to get used to moving around the school, you will have a tour of the college on your transition days.

Your Personal Tutor will go over your timetable with you and make sure that you know what equipment you need for the week. There is always staff around the school that you can ask if you are not sure where you are going.

Who do I talk to if I’m upset or worried about something?

We are a very caring school. If you have any worries, your first point of contact is your Personal Tutor. You may also speak to your Deputy Head of Year, Head of Year or any member of staff.

Will we get a lot of homework?

You will be expected to do homework from different subjects through the week and this may be more than you would have been set at primary school. However, the platform Show my Homework helps you keep track of what has been set and due dates, so don’t worry.

What are the rules on mobile phones?

You may bring a mobile telephone with you, but their use is not permitted at any time whilst on the premises unless a teacher has requested you to do so. Mobile telephones will be confiscated if you are seen to be using them (or if they are heard during class) and placed in the main office to be collected at the end of the day by yourself or your parent/carer.

The college cannot accept any responsibility for the theft or loss of valuables including mobile phones.

Parent FAQs

What do I do if my child is ill and going to be absent from school, or falls ill at school?

All student absence must be notified to the Attendance Officer, Miss Hawley, as soon as possible on the day. This may be done by telephone on 01332 204040, email to [email protected] , or a letter clearly labelled FAO the Attendance Officer. Please be aware that contact from a parent/carer will not automatically authorise a student’s absence. Student medical appointments, where possible, must be made outside of the college day. If this is not possible the attendance officer must be made aware in advance via the above channels.

If your child feels unwell during the day they should visit the medical officer. They will speak to your child and ascertain whether it is necessary to contact you.

How do we pay for school dinners?

We are a cashless college and use ParentPay for all transactions. More information on ParentPay and the lunch menus can be found here: https://landau-forte.org.uk/parents/parentpay/

Your child may opt to bring a packed lunch to be eaten in the restaurant. All students are required to stay on site throughout the day, including during the 30-minute lunch break. If your child is on free school meals their allowance will be loaded onto their swipe cards each day.

Where can my child find out about extra-curricular clubs?

We believe that engagement in a wide range of enrichment activities not only gives students a valuable breadth of experience but also helps to achieve greater success in the core GCSE subjects. There will be a range of enrichment activities ran after school each term.

Your child’s personal tutor will give students updated information about enrichment running at the start of each term, and this information will be displayed around the college. Find out more about Enrichment here: https://landau-forte.org.uk/parents/enrichment-activities/

My child has SEND, what support can they be offered?

Depending on your child’s SEND need, the SENCo will work with both the student and family to develop support and strategies to not only aid the transition process but to support with the individual’s learning and progress as they start their secondary educational journey.

More information can be found here: https://landau-forte.org.uk/parents/sen/

Who do I contact if I have any questions or if there are any problems?

You should contact your child’s Personal Tutor in the first instance. The most effective ways of doing this is to email or telephone the office, who will pass your query on to the relevant person, who will in turn get in touch with you as soon as they are able to.

For more significant questions or concerns please contact Miss Ricketts, Head of Year 7 [email protected] or Mrs Bowley-Haynes, Deputy Head of Year 7 [email protected]

A booklet for students

We have sent this booklet home for you to read over the summer. We hope you like it! It is attached here so you can download it too. Please contact us if you would like an alternative version for a student with additional needs. We know in joining the College you will want to become the best person you can be, always being thoughtful and kind to others regardless of whether they are different to you. If you know someone with a disability or special needs coming to the College from your primary school or neighbourhood, why don’t you see how they are feeling and offer your support?
