Safer Internet Day 2015 is on Tuesday 10th February and this year’s theme is “Let’s create a better Internet together”. As part of this, the College will be running a series of events over the week.
#FirewallFriday
During Safer Internet Week, students and staff will be educated on what makes a secure password and will be encouraged to start thinking of their own. The week will culminate on Friday, 13 February (Week 6) with “Firewall Friday” where students and staff will be required to change the password they use to login to the College network.
Hints & Tips
We have compiled some hints and tips to help everyone to think of a more secure password:
- Try to use a minimum of 8 characters
- Include both upper case and lower case characters
- Add a symbol such as ‘&’
- Mix in some numbers
- Test it out at www.passwordmeter.com to see how secure it is!
If you’re struggling to think about how to make your password secure, but memorable at the same time, why not try this out:
- Think of a phrase that means something to you e.g. My Favourite Football Team Is Wolves
- Use the first letters of each word – MFFTIW
- Change some to lower case – MffTiW
- Add some numbers – MffTiW12
- Test it out at www.passwordmeter.com to see how secure it is!
Social Media Privacy Hub
Are you concerned about how private your social media profiles are? Are you unsure of how to make them more secure?
The College is running a Social Media Privacy Hub allowing students to get support in making sure that their social media profiles are private and secure. These hubs will take place on Monday and Tuesday of Week 6, and students can sign up using the Social Media Privacy Hub Registration Form.
